The Redfish Brewery rocked out on Saturday night with the “Sooner or Later” album release party for Soul Patch, a talented band that features local talent from two part-time venture capitalists, part-time rock stars, Ryan McIntyre and Jason Mendelson of the Foundry Group.
Having only seen these two guys in a strictly professional setting, it was awesome to see them jamming out on stage and I was truly impressed by their performance as well as the energy of the band. These guys are the real deal and they knew exactly how to work the crowd to get everybody moving on the dance floor. Their tunes were a funky, eclectic mix of lyrics and instrumental that reminded me of RHCP - one of my all-time favorite bands. My favorite part was when Jason pulled out some type of cow bell (could be wrong on this one) and started pounding on it as the pace grew frenzied and the music peaked. The crowd pretty much went nuts at this point and I found myself jumping up and down, cheering them on!
Rumor has it this performance will be their last for some time, as the band members live in at least three different cities (Denver, L.A. and San Fran). I’ve sampled their album on iLike and it’s pretty sweet. I’m definitely grabbing a copy.

P.S. A few of the Techstars decided to sport decorative soul patches on our chins to commemorate this rare event (pic below). The guys’ chins look pretty real. Mine looks like a dirt smudge.
Great job Ryan, Jason and the rest of your band! Hope you guys decide to schedule more gigs because you’re damn good.
